Just a quick question: What do ya'll do to winterize your outboard engines?

This is the first time I have lived in a place that regularly freezes in the winter....least since I have owned an outboard. I grew up in Ohio.

My thoughts were to naturally throw some fuel treatment in her and make sure my boat is cleaned and covered....when it comes to the engine though I thought I might flush it with some antifreeze.

I have a Miracle grow canister (used for spraying your plants with a garden hose) connected to my ear muffs ( a little trick I learned from Capt Rick---Thanks dude!). I figured I could run a little antifreeze through it on a final flush of the season. Naturally I know that my outboard shouldn't retain much water but I thought of doing this as a precaution.

Other than that I am not quite sure what to do in order to be sure my new $5000 engine fires up in the spring.

Thanks for any input.

MM when are you finished with the recruiting " misery " ? It seems as though you have been gone for 3 + years. Do you have any idea where you will be assigned after it is over ?

I miss your somewhat bumpy rides.

James,,,,You might wanna check with one of the sites up north and see what they do.
But I think if you have the motor down,,,all of the water will drain out.

Just dont forget about your live well and bildge pump hoses that might hold water. I blow mine out with the air hose..................

Its good to see you on the site,,,pecka-head.

Sorry so long on checking back in. I am currently on leave. Very happy about that. Started my leave on the 12th and I am off till FEB 1ST!!!! Haven't done a dang thing since I started my leave except for doing a little shooting ont he range yesterday. Today I'll try to knock a few honey-do's off the list.

Appreciate the input on this one. I'll blow out the bilge/baitwell lines RIck....appreciate it.

AP: Good to hear from you. No one feels like its been three years already quite like I do I assure you. In reality Its been right at 2 years since I left for recruiters school and I've been recruiting now for about 18 months. So I have another 18 months to go before I can get out of here. As far as where I'll go, I am not too terribly sure at this point. I knw I am going to ask for Beaufort again. I really liked that area as far as things to do with my weekends and such. The hunting is not quite what I wish it were, but thats OK.

Looking forward to bouncing your butt overboard again so I'll do my best to get back there.

Mathews.
